About Aurifil 50wt Thread
Aurifil is the most popular "go-to" thread for everyday sewing, piecing, topstitch and quilting. Each spool of Aurifil Cotton Mako is mercerised - this enables the fibres to contract and increases the efficiency of the dyeing process. The result is a high sheen thread with a great washing resistance uncomparable to other cotton threads available on the market.
Uses for 50wt thread include Needleturn Applique. English Paper Piecing. Hand Piecing. Bobbin and Machine Lace. Machine Applique (Straight Stitch, Zig Zag, Blind Hem and Blanket Stitch). Machine Embroidery. Dense Machine Quilting. Subtle Machine and Longarm Quilting. Basting. Whole Cloth and Micro Quilting. Dense Background Designs.
Recommended needle types:
80/12 Microtex/Sharp, Universal, or Denim Needle (use 50wt in the bobbin)
4.0 Longarm Needle (use 50wt in the bobbin)
